View definition basics

Overview

Next Design allows you to define multiple views for each entity. The newly added entity has only the Document form format Detail view defined.

There are the following methods for defining a view.

• Define a view in the model editor for the fields and relationships already defined in the metamodel.
• Add entities, fields and relationships to the metamodel and at the same time define the view in the model editor.

The former method is recommended if you first define a view for the target metamodel, or if you are not familiar with the structure of that metamodel. Therefore, this manual only describes the former method.

The following sections describe the basic view definition methods for entities in the following order:

• Add view definition

• Delete view definition
• Change view order

Add view definition

To add a new view definition for an entity, from the model editor:

Edit view definition

Editing the view definition is described for each view type.

Delete view definition

To delete an existing view definition, do the following from the Profile Navigator:

Operating procedure

1. Switch to Profile Navigator with the selector at the top of the Navigator.
2. Locate the entity whose view definition you want to delete in the Profile Navigator. ([Use case] in the image above)
3. Expand the tree under that entity, and you can see the view definition of that entity at the end of the child node. (Three of [Usecase Diagram], [List], [Detail] in the above image)
4. Select the child node with the same name as the view definition you want to delete and click Delete from the context menu. ([Usecase Diagram] in the image above)
5. When deleted, the corresponding view will be deleted from all models corresponding to that entity.

Change view order

To change the order of the switchable views in the upper right corner of the model editor, use the following procedure from the Profile Navigator.

Operating procedure

1. Switch to Profile Navigator with the selector at the top of the Navigator.
2. Locate the entity whose view definition you want to change in the Profile Navigator. ([Use case] in the image above)
3. Expand the tree under that entity, and you can see the view definition of that entity at the end of the child node. (Three of [Usecase Diagram], [List], [Detail] in the above image)
4. Click the view definition whose order you want to change, select it, and swap the order with other view definitions using the drag and drop operation. ([List] in the image above)
5. Swapping the order of the view definitions in the tree in the Profile Navigator will change the order of the views for all models corresponding to that entity in that order.
